Teenage - a simple sketch

I am working on a face of the main female character now. She is not a geek but a cheerleader. Here is one of the sketches:

More teenage

I am back from a quick trip to Poland. I had a great meeting with the art director of the publishing house I am currently preparing a bookcover for. So for couple of weeks there is going to be more teenage love in the air!

Teenage

I am currently working on another illustration for a bookcover of a novel for teenagers.
Here are some already published (I do recommend Barry Jonsberg - the stories about Calma are hilarious):

I have also designed the covers.

Some more America

The illustration for an article in a Polish magazine Charaktery about an American diet and how people in US deal with their not very healthy nutrition.

Inauguration

Will he manage or will he not? I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Memento

Andrew Wyeth died today.

I need Spring! NOW

I actually know someone who used to be Raf Simon's German language teacher.

Wedding bells, ups - flowers

I have to design some kind of invitation for my own wedding as the date is approaching and we will soon have to start sending the cards. Here is an illustration I did for my friend's wedding. The text was printed on a thick tracing paper so that the flower was just visible from underneath. I hope some of the people who got the invitation kept this image as a postcard on their fridge!

Babies

There were quite many newborns appearing near me tin recent days and happy parents were keen to announce their appearances to the world. This is a design of a card which I did for a friend of mine. Her son is getting bigger and bigger everyday! Click to enlarge him even more!

It is raining cats and dogs

This drawing was inspired by todays weather - rain and howling wind, in other words: better stay at home and keep cosy. I am hoping to do the whole series inspired by a brilliant collection of drawings by Pont that my mother-in-law has in her library. I should really do a naughty one too - illustrate a French version of this proverb: Il pleut comme vache qui pisse!

A full colour version of the sketch will be published in couple of days (as usual, please click to enlarge):

Paddington one more time

Did you know that there is going to be a sequel to another famous teddy bear - Winnie the Pooh? I did a Paddington collage for a printable version of my portfolio (please click to enlarge):

Do you believe in horoscopes?

I must say I do. It is one of my guilty pleasures (as is flicking through the celebrity gossip web pages and impulse eyeshadow shopping) and there exisits one magazine that always gets it right!
Here is an unfinished commission for a women's magazine. Unfortunately they wanted something calligraphic (which is not what I do) so the project has never been developed. Well, I guess now I can do the whole horoscope the way I want it, right?
Especially that I have just won a competition of the biggest Polish women magazine Twoj Styl to illustrate their horoscope feature for 2010!

Let's start with an idea for Scorpio:

I cannot wear red lips or a LV bag

It suits lots of girls but I look like a drag queen on duty when wearing red on my lips (shape of my mouth is too big for that and I suppose one cannot see anything on my face beyond a huge, red splodge) and I do not like latest LV designs either - Madge looks fine (even though one of the images shows her having only 1 leg) but please, oh please - bring Murakami back!

The Immigrant Illustrator

Funnily enough, my first commision after relocating to UK was to prepare layout and provide needed illustrations for a website for a Polish edition of an all time favourite of British kids (well, before a certain wizard came along) Paddington Bear.
Just like me he came to live in a strange country, though I am based far more North than London, in a country that feels much like Peru, especially at this time of a year.
Have a look here while you enjoy your marmelade sarnies and a cup of hot tea. WITH MILK!
